Neymar can finally play for the Saudi team again.
Al-Hilal star Neymar Jr will return after a year layoff due to injury. Neymar will be in Al-Hilal's squad for tomorrow's AFC Champions League match against Al Ain.
Neymar joined the Riyadh side in August 2023 but played just five games before undergoing surgery in October last year. He had torn the meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing for his country. "These were days of great pain, anxiety, and nostalgia for football, which were overcome thanks to the help of family and friends, still here for our number 10. And to all the fans around the world who they gave all their support on social media," said NR Sports, the Brazilian star's marketing agency.
"Every time I'm injured, I come back. But I don't come back halfway," Neymar said in tears in a video.
"The wait is over."
Although Neymar returned to training in July, his club coach Jorge Jesus tempered expectations of an immediate recovery in September. The Portuguese coach did not confirm Neymar's participation on Monday, but the player revealed he was fit to play again. It will be interesting to see if he is included in the squad for the match.
As there is no limit to the number of international players allowed to take part in the continental competition, Neymar, whose two-year contract expires next August, is eligible to take part in the elite AFC Champions League. However, this is not the case for championship matches.
The former FC Barcelona player could also play for Brazil in the last two FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November if he returns to play for the club team. "Although there is no final decision regarding his return, the number 10 will be able to play on Monday to continue his incredible trajectory," the press release said.
