The Red Devils have sacked Erik ten Hag.
For Manchester United's first game since the sacking of Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge of the Carabao Cup match against Leicester City.
Ten Hag was sacked and the former United striker was appointed caretaker manager until a permanent manager was chosen.
Ten Hag was sacked after United suffered their worst start to a Premier League season, winning just one game in eight and finishing 14th in the table.
However, when United host Leicester at Old Trafford, they will be aiming to return to their Carabao Cup-winning form and qualify for the quarter-finals. Sunday's Premier League game against Chelsea is the first of two home games that Van Nistelrooy will take charge of this week.
Ten Hag blamed United's poor start to the season on injuries and claimed the absence had let him down after the team's late defeat at West Ham.
Van Nistelrooy is currently dealing with United's injury list as several first-team players are unable to play against Leicester.
Manchester United in contact with the coach of Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim
Sporting Lisbon has confirmed that Manchester United is willing to pay a €10m (£8.3m) release clause for Ruben Amorim, who will become the team's next manager.
The release clause has been activated and the Portuguese manager could now be hired and travel to England in time to manage Man United for their Premier League game against Chelsea on Sunday, according to sources who stepped up talks between United and Sporting on Tuesday. Old Trafford chiefs have listed the 39-year-old as the frontrunner to succeed Erik ten Hag, with Amorim agreeing to take over as the club's next manager.
