Manchester United are set to appoint Ruben Amorim as their new manager following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.
The club has reportedly agreed to pay Amorim's €10m release clause, with the Portuguese manager having already expressed his commitment to United's proposal and vision.
The decision to replace Ten Hag follows a difficult period for the Dutchman, whose tenure ended with United in 14th place in the Premier League following a 2-1 defeat at West Ham. Ten Hag signed a contract extension in July, but with just four wins in 14 games, the club's hierarchy deemed a change necessary.
Ten Hag spent more than £600 million ($780 million) on transfers during his time at Manchester United. The club's hierarchy described the decision to let him go as "difficult and delicately balanced", and the sacking is believed to have cost United around £13.5m ($17.5m).
According to reports, Ten Hag earned an annual salary of around £6.75 million ($8.8 million). Details of Amorim's salary as United manager have not yet been revealed, but it is likely to be a similar figure.
Who will be the new coach of Sporting after the transfer of Amorim to Manchester United?
Sporting CP have confirmed that they have received official communication from United regarding the transfer, and reports suggest that they already have a successor in mind to take over from Ruben Amorim. At 39, Amorim has built a solid reputation thanks to his success in the Portuguese league and his dynamic coaching style, making him a sought-after candidate for the Red Devils.
It seems only a matter of time before Amorim is officially confirmed as United's next manager, making him the club's sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
United also had Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick, and Ralf Rangnick as caretaker managers during this period from 2013. And here is the last name on the manager's list.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who served as Ten Hag's assistant, is currently serving as caretaker manager until Amorim's arrival. Sources close to Van Nistelrooy say that the latter does not want to take the reins of the club permanently out of respect for Ten Hag, his Dutch compatriot.
With the appointment of Amorim, United fans will be hoping for new management and immediate improvement. As Amorim prepares to take the reins, all eyes will be on Old Trafford to see if this bold move can revive United's season.
