West Ham striker Michail Antonio is in stable condition in hospital, "conscious and communicating" after a road traffic accident, the Premier League club announced on Saturday. The Hammers said the 34-year-old was under "close observation at a central London hospital". The update came after unverified images of a badly damaged Ferrari began circulating online. A club statement said: "West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic collision this afternoon in the Essex area.
"Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently being treated at a nearby hospital in central London.
"During this difficult time, we would ask everyone to respect Michail and his family's privacy.
"The club will make no further comment this evening but will provide a further update in due course."
This was West Ham's second statement on the matter after a previous one confirmed an accident.
Essex Fire Brigade also confirmed that firefighters attended the scene and freed a man trapped in his car
Several Premier League clubs have shown their support for Antonio
"Everyone at Arsenal sends their love, support, and best wishes to Michail, his family, and West Ham United," Arsenal told X, with Chelsea and Liverpool echoing the same sentiments.
The London-born Jamaican international joined West Ham in 2015 and has scored 83 goals for the club in 323 appearances.
He has scored once in 15 appearances for the Hammers this season, in a 4-1 home win over Ipswich in early October.
The former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday striker won the Europa Conference League with the club in 2023 under David Moyes.
West Ham, now under the management of Julen Lopetegui, host Wolves on Monday.
