West Ham United Issue Update on Michail Antonio

West Ham United has confirmed that Michail Antonio has been called up to the Jamaica squad for the crucial international match against the United States.

The Irons announced the news via the club's official website on Sunday (10 November).

Steve McClaren has named the veteran striker in his squad for both of his CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final matches against Mauricio Pochettino's United States in Kingston [15 November] and St Louis [19 November].

Antonio, 34, has played 12 times for the Hammers this season and remains vital in the eyes of Julen Lopetegui despite only one goal.

Michail Antonio remains popular at West Ham and Jamaica

Despite Antonio's criticism, he retains two important admirers in his two professional coaches, Lopetegui and McClaren. Some will argue that Niclas Fullkrug's prolonged absence is why Antonio has been named so regularly in the Hammers' squad this season - which is true to an extent - but Lopetegui chose him over the German ahead of the so-hurt.

Antonio's only Premier League goal so far this season came in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town at the London Stadium, a rare bright spark in Lopetegui's brief spell so far.

The versatile striker is out of contract at the end of the season and questions remain over his future, having joined the club during his days at Upton Park.

Going into these two vital international matches for his country, Antonio scored five goals in 21 full appearances for the Reggae Boyz.

In other West Ham news, Jason Cundy claims the club should have appointed this man instead of Lopetegui.
