New changes in the UEFA Champions League will take place during the coming season 2024/25, including an expansion of the tournament's format. Unlike previous tournaments, a group stage will not be used, and 36 teams will directly qualify for the championship stage.
The schedule for this new phase was drawn on August 29, and all the teams announced the fixtures for the eight-match days to be played between mid-September 2024 and the end of January 2025.
The expansion's objective is to increase the number of matches and travels required for the competition; however, it will allow the clubs to participate in the strongest European club football championship. The dream of 36 teams will become a reality over 30 years later in the 2024/25 competition where pioneers will be awarded additional tickets For those with eyes to see it, an expanded UEFA Champions League is nearer than ever. In addition, teams that featured in the Champions League and the Europa League of the last season are considered, and additionally, twenty-five other teams earn their place based on domestic league performance. The rest of the teams qualified through several qualifiers.
This was complemented by two more of the best-qualified leagues according to the UEFA coefficient ratings of this season — Italy and Germany and the seven teams qualified through the play-offs.

Changes to the Champions League Format for 2024/25:
The UEFA Champions League announced that they will be changing from the next season, the 2024/25 season. Here are the key updates:
- Expanded Tournament Size: The capacity of the teams to qualify for the competition will also be expanded from 32 to 36 teams.
- New 'League Phase': The initial round-robin ‘group phase’ will be done away with and only one phase christened the ‘league phase’ will be in force. All 36 teams will remain in one league As much as they were grouped into three groups, all the teams have to compete in the same league.
- Match Structure: In the league phase, every team will be able to compete in eight games, both on the home field and on the opposite team field.
- Knockout Qualification: The first eight teams seen in the league will qualify directly to the knockout stage of the tournament. These teams placed in between the ninth and 24th positions will play another round of playoffs in order to qualify for the knockouts phase.
- Increased Revenue Sharing: UEFA is to increase payments based on revenues by €220 million ($231m), to total €935 million ($983m), a rise of 21 percent on the previous four-year period.
- National Association Benefits: Every national association is allowed up to €17m of the fund for the period of four years in their respective leagues. This funding is used in the grassroots development of players, coaching and refereeing courses and other social courses, and construction of pitches, training camps, staking, and stadiums.
It remains doubtful whether the participants and club will receive more money in this new cycle, but for UEFA the changes are intended to increase the breadth of participants and care for the overall systems of football in Europe.
