Trent Alexander-Arnold has set ambitious goals for his career, aiming to become the first defender to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or.
The Liverpool defender has enjoyed an impressive start to the season under new manager Arne Slott, contributing two assists in 11 appearances as a defender. Since his debut at Anfield in October 2016, Alexander-Arnold has flourished, initially under Jürgen Klopp, to become one of the most influential defenders in football.
A product of Liverpool's academy, Alexander-Arnold already has notable titles to his name, including a Premier League title in 2019/20 and a Champions League win last season. However, one distinction still eludes him: the Ballon d'Or.
"I want to be the first defender to achieve that," he said in a recent interview on Sky Sports. "I believe I can do it."
Reflecting on the legacy he wanted to leave, Alexander-Arnold stated his ambitions simply: “A football legend, someone who changed the game. "My motto is, 'Don't just play the game, change it.'
He added: "I want to leave as an inheritance the greatest right in history. I aim high because this is where I believe my potential can lead. Only after I retire will we be able to look in the mirror and say: " I gave everything ". It's not about the number of trophies or medals, but about what he brings to the game and the ability to reach his full potential."
The 2023/24 Ballon d'Or ceremony, scheduled for October 28, features favorites such as Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior and Manchester City's Rodri. Although Rodri's defensive role in midfield may hurt his chances, Alexander-Arnold remains undeterred, aspiring to redefine greatness from a defensive position.
