Manchester United are reportedly targeting a significant defensive upgrade with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, as they look to outpace Real Madrid in the race for the 23-year-old Canadian left-back.
Davies, a standout at Bayern, has just 18 months left on his current contract, fueling transfer interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.
United’s Push for a Key Left-Back According to Sky Sport Deutschland, United have taken the initiative by opening informal discussions with Davies’ representatives, hoping to get a head start over Real Madrid, who have not yet approached the player.
Inspired by recent support from their new majority stakeholder INEOS, United’s signing business signals a clear intention to build their team in time for the next season. Going into this transfer window, the Red Devils’ manager, Erik Ten Hag has been forced to employ makeshift left-backs due to Shaw’s and Malacia’s injuries.
The German Champions, Bayern Munich have prioritized giving Davies a new deal and it has emerged that negotiations over wages have frozen. However, if an agreement cannot be reached then United will look forward to offering Davies another challenge at the Premier League. But they may come under pressure from Real Madrid whose performance in the Champions League and global appeal remains impressive.
United’s probabilities may well also be dependent on Champions League qualification which is why success in the premiership or Europa League is paramount for Davies.
Considering the current standings in United and the European stature of Real Madrid this race of transfers is brewing.
