Thomas Tuchel is reported to be close to finalizing a deal to become the head of the England team, and FA is now reportedly in an advanced stage of dealing with Tuchel to replace Gareth Southgate.
Sources indicate that Tuchel is willing to assume the position permanently after Southgate left earlier this year. The FA has been looking at several candidates for a long time now for the highly regarded job that is currently being temporarily filled by Lee Carsley.
Tuchel is still in talks with the FA and can sign the deal quickly, and Manchester United is also considering the former Chelsea head coach after they reconsider the position of Erik ten Hag. Tuchel has experience of winning several prestigious trophies, which serves as a strong advantage for him because the FA wants to find a coach who will bring England to a new level.
Since Southgate’s resignation in July, Carsley the England Under-21s boss has been in charge of a transitional England national side. But Carsley has already made it clear that England requires a ‘world-class’ coach who has won trophies which Tuchel has.
Many believe that Tuchel is a familiar face in English football due to his stint with Chelsea for almost two seasons. Further, their recent experience at Bayern Munich also revealed he has worked with England’s captain Harry Kane though it would be a great advantage if he could be appointed to control the national team.
There is one problem for the FA hunting Tuchel: money They could face financial jeopardy as a result of hiring him. Tuchel left Bayern Munich and currently is on gardening leave, so he may or may not need to make some financial decisions should accept the England post. However, Tuchel is willing to come back to management and considers England’s position as a challenge and an interesting offer.
For now, it seems Carsley will continue in an interim capacity as initially expected when the English national team plays September windows against Greece and the Republic of Ireland this fall while the FA makes a definitive decision regarding Tuchel.
