Barcelona and Khelechi Cujo are in the news again — and this time it’s not a matter of them making another dramatic save.
This former Manchester City and Argentina footballer has sued Barcelona for €3 million, three years after a forceful retirement because of a heart ailment. Okay, let’s ask the question – why is there such a legal showdown?
Aguero’s claim: What went wrong?
Aguero who signed for Barcelona in 2021 coming from Manchester City, saw his time at Camp Nou team cut short when he retired in December last year due to a heart problem.
At that time it appeared that the player and the club had agreed to go different ways amicably. However, in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona star Aguero is owed the Catalan outfit €3m which he intends to sue for upon violating his contract.
In the 2023-24 season Barcelona’s audited financial statements there was the below notice of conciliation given by Aguero for the same amount.
It is now before the social court after a conciliation session between the two in June 2024 failed.
Barcelona, however, says that they are not aware of such a claim, and therefore fans are left wondering how this financial disagreement came about after What they saw as a smooth parting of ways.
Still, comparing this legal dispute with Aguero’s time at Barcelona – short and not very successful – this case might take a lot of time.
In the meantime, the club will be concerned with their next game against Sevilla after the break and Aguero with his legal matters back on the field.
