Ruben Amorim Plans £175m Sporting Raid as New Man Utd Manager

Ruben Amorim has already assured Sporting Lisbon that he will not make a move for them in January, but rumors suggest he could try to bring three of his former players to Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United's incoming manager Ruben Amorim is set to bring three Sporting Lisbon players with him to Old Trafford next summer - as the Portuguese boss prepares to replace Erik Ten Hag later this month.

Amorim will take up the role on November 11 after United agreed a compensation package with Sporting worth around £10m, although the club fear he could take some of their star players.

The 39-year-old manager has already assured Sporting that he will not target them in the January transfer window, but according to The Sun, a trio of his former players could join him at the end of the season.

The report claims that Amorim could pay £175m for £50m defender Goncalo Inacio, £40m midfielder Morten Hjulmand, and striker Viktor Gyokeres - a deal worth around £84m.

Gyokeres is a name that has been heavily linked with United - as well as Arsenal in recent months - and the Old Trafford links are only set to continue now that Amorim is heading to the club. The Swede was one of the world's most prolific strikers last season, scoring 43 goals in 50 appearances. This season, he has 16 in 15 games.

A former Brighton player, but having played just eight times for the Seagulls, he has made a name for himself at Coventry, where he has scored 43 goals between 2021 and 2023.

Amorim - whose first game is away to Ipswich Town on November 24 - has previously been linked with bringing Gyorkere to United but has dismissed the rumors, vowing not to return to the club for January signings.

"I didn't sign any players from Sporting in January," he admitted. "Gyokeres costs 100 million euros and is very difficult."

The player himself also hit back at the speculation and refused to shut down the rumors - although he insisted he was happy at the club.

He said: "Are you going with Amorim to Manchester United? I don't know, I'm here. I like being here, it's not something I think about. I'm having fun here. I am saddened by his departure. We wish them the best.
