Cristiano Ronaldo scored as Portugal Responded, P, 3-1, over Poland on Saturday for the third consecutive win in the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League. However, the European champions set Denmark’s record in the competition tumbling with a slender victory.
Portugal's Dominant Display
Bernardo Silva scored the first goal of the match for Portugal in the 26th minute, getting off an excellent volley that started from Bruno Fernandes with a headed pass from Ruben Neves. Ronaldo then made it 2-0 after he tapped in the ball following a shot by winger Rafael Leao that struck the post. Ronaldo has now scored all three of Portugal’s Nations League games, taking his total number of international goals and goals for the country to 133.

Portugal now stands well on the way to clinching the quarter-final berth with a three-point lead over Croatia.
The day Croatia triumphed and the trials and tribulations of Scotland’s football team
Scotland succumbed to their third successive defeat in the competition after they were beaten 2-1 by Croatia in Zagreb. Ryan Christie scored for Scotland, but Igor Matanovic equalized before the break and Andrej Kramaric settled the match in the second half. Che Adams believed he had provided the equalizer for Scotland but it was ruled out for an offensively placed player by VAR. Scotland failed to record a victory in any of their previous competitive matches for up to nine games – a record in the history of the team.
Spain’s Narrow Win
For the second time in Group A4, Spain saw off Denmark 1-0 in Murcia where Martin Zubimendi scored the lone goal in the 79th minute. The goal came after a good defensive stand Denmark put up for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to make crucial saves to address efforts by Lamine Yamal and Alvaro Morata. However, Spain did not have players from the likes of Rodri, Dani Carvajal, and Unai Simon in their line-up but still, they were able to move one point ahead of Denmark, thus setting up a point lead of the team by seven points.
Switzerland lost their first match in group A4 to Serbia after a 2-0 defeat. Serbia scored the opener with an own goal by Nico Elvedi and Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a second goal for Serbia before they were saved a penalty kick by Predrag Rajkovic against Breel Embolo.
In Group C3 the two matches ended in a barren draw as first Bulgaria-Luxembourg and then Northern Ireland-Belarus both took place in Hungary. Romania easily dominated Cyprus in Group C2 with a 3-0 victory, and Kosovo narrowly defeated Lithuania 2-1.
