Real Madrid Targets Arsenal Defensive Star as Top Transfer Priority for 2025

Real Madrid is said to be preparing for a showdown with Arsenal to sign William Saliba for the new 2025 season’s defensive lineup for the next 2025/26 season. Martial, the French center-back, has also become an indispensable piece in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team, especially in the challenge to displace Manchester City in the English top-flight league football championship race. However, Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid are already looking to the future without Antonio Rudiger and Saliba is on their radar.

Saliba’s Arsenal Timeline

Saliba signed for Arsenal in 2019 from Saint-Etienne, but he was shipped back to Saint-Etienne on a period of loan. Further loan spells were had at Nice and then at Marseille, although it was not until the start of the 2022/23 season that Saliba was allowed to establish himself in Arteta’s side. Soon, he found a great teammate in Gabriel Magalhães, so he became an important figure in the Arsenal defense line.

Saliba is Arsenal’s player and signed a new contract valid until June 2027 without a clause permitting a termination midway. I understand that Arsenal is looking for ways to extend his current deal to ensure that he remains with the Gunners till 2030, which means that any attempts by Madrid in the middle of nurturing Kun ATL will be an arduous task.

Is Signing Saliba Possible for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid had been reported to have made contact with Saliba’s camp by Le10 Sport. Perhaps, convincing Saliba to join Madrid is the opportunity to play with other French player such as Mbappé, Tchouaméni, Mendy, and Camavinga.

Nonetheless, Arsenal is keen on halting any such transfer as Saliba is estimated to be worth about £80 million ($105 million). In the event that no deal is signed in 2025, Madrid could also begin preparing for a free transfer once Saliba’s contract expires, which, given the current intentions by Arsenal to renew his contract, will be difficult for Madrid to achieve.
