Peterborough United Women bowed out of the FA Women's National League Cup after a heavy 6-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon at Grange Park. Despite a lively start, Posh were unable to match their Tier 3 opponents, exiting the competition in the second round.
Forest began applying pressure early, with Johnson going close, but Posh held firm initially. On nine minutes, James created a chance for Posh, sending the ball across goal, but there was no one to convert. Forest broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Welling finished a deep cross from a tight angle at the back post.
The Posh defense was tested throughout the first half, with Corry making several key saves, including one from a deep corner. However, Forest doubled their lead on 41 minutes when Johnson headed in at the back post.
After halftime, Forest continued to dominate. Johnson scored her second goal in the 55th minute, showcasing impressive footwork before slotting into the bottom corner. Galloway added a fourth in the 67th minute after being played through by Chandarana.
Despite a valiant effort from Corry, who made several excellent saves, Forest piled on the goals. Domingo tapped in the fifth on 86 minutes after Corry’s initial save fell kindly to her, and Chandarana capped the scoring in injury time with a strike to make it 6-0.
Posh now turns their attention back to league action as they face Lincoln United Women next Sunday.
