Omar Marmoush Brace Denies Bayern Munich Bundesliga Top Spot

Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush's masterclass carried the Frankfurt by scoring two goals, including the last-minute equalizer to earn the side a 3-3 Stalemate against Bayern Munich on Sunday. It delayed Bayern Munich from increasing their lead as the team at the summit of the Bundesliga table. With this result, Bayern go into the international break level on points with RB Leipzig, ahead only on goal difference after Leipzig's 1-0 win against Heidenheim in the earlier match.

Marmoush’s equalizer started celebrations in Frankfurt who are now only one point behind the joint leaders. The victory takes their run without a loss in all competitions to seven with Dino Toppmöller as the head coach. Frankfurt occupies the 13th place in the standings of the Bundesliga.

Bayern had been rewarded the lead in the 21st minute because of their central defender Min-Jae Kim who headed into the roof of the net with a perfect assist from Thomas Müller of a corner kick. It was Kim’s second goal for Bayern, but Frankfurt's equalizer came from their first threat, a counterattack that Bayern allowed themselves. Marmoush was teed up by Ansgar Knauff, and he dribbled past Joshua Kimmich before firing past Manuel Neuer.

Frankfurt then went ahead and equalized the match 13 minutes later when Marmoush set up Hugo Ekitike to score a perfect goal. Marmoush, who has scored eight goals in six games this season – three goals more than Bayern’s Harry Kane – has been in sparkling form.

But the lead that Frankfurt enjoyed for a short while was demised. Three minutes later Bayern leveled with Dayot Upamecano after Serge Gnabry had stretched the Frankfurt defence. The match turned back in favor of the home side in the early stages of the second period when Michael Olise, who has been impressive since joining Bayern from Arminia Bielefeld this season, beat the goalkeeper with a low shot into the bottom corner after a well-placed pass from Kane.

However, they failed to hang on for the win as a lapse in Bayern’s defense allowed Marmoush to snatch a dramatic late in-scripted equalizer. Disappointed Bayern’s Thomas Müller said after the match, ‘We should have won.’ We would likely be successful in 13 of such 15 games.”

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig rose temporarily to the benchmark of the league as the assembled secured a 1-0 against Heidenheim. Loïs Openda got the only goal, his second against Heidenheim in two fixtures, to help Leipzig secure a fourth straight game without conceding a goal. Despite much pressure, the chance creation and goal came only in the 59th minute with Openda chipping the ball after a perfect pass by 19-year-old Norwegian Antonio Nusa. MO Openda nearly made it 2, hitting the post deep in the futile in the remaining minutes of the match.

At the same time, Stuttgart was hoping for a top-six finish, but Nigel De Jong missed a penalty and Ermedin Demirovic scored in the final moments of injury time for Hoffenheim to end the match at 1-1. Hoffenheim scored first through Valentin Gendrey before the break but Demirović equalized late into the game after his penalty hit the post and he tapped in the rebound.

Bayer Leverkusen which for the past three seasons has been champions, were held to a 2-2 draw by Holstein Kiel after they let in a two-goal lead on Saturday. Leverkusen is now in fifth place in the rankings.
