Lionel Messi continues to dominate the headlines in Major League Soccer (MLS). This time it’s for Luis Suárez’s accomplishments. In the newly commenced 2024 season, Suárez has also won three Player of the Matchday awards and has equaled Messi's record.
The latest achievement was added to Suárez’s tally after helping Miami win over Cincinnati while scoring 2 goals reserving his season count at 14. Since July when Messi has not played because of an ankle injury, Suárez has been a key player in helping Miami qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs.
It further highlights the growth of Inter Miami as it becomes the only team in MLS history to have two players – player of the matchday winners in three or more games in one season. This has also positioned Suárez in a place where he is one goal short of breaking Gonzalo Higuain's record at the club of 16 goals in a season in MLS.
With Miami now topping the Eastern Conference by 8 points, supporters are still waiting for Messi to make a comeback to the pitch. With Messi on the pitch and Suárez playing alongside him, they could make an excellent partnership and guide Inter Miami in winning the first-coin MLS Cup.
