France will play against Israel on Thursday, October 10, in the away UEFA Nations League match that will be held in Budapest because of the security situation in the Middle East.
Paris Saint-Germains striker Kyilian has been left out of the France lineup for the upcoming Nation League games. In January he suffered a thigh strain and was out for a few games though only from the substitute bench during Real Madrid’s shock 1-0 loss to Lille in the Champions League midweek. Nevertheless, new manager Didier Deschamps has withdrawn the 25-year-old from upcoming friendlies against Israel and Belgium to help him build his fitness.
“I talked to Kylian; his issue is not serious, but I do not want to take any chances. And that is why he is not in the squad,” said Deschamps in a press conference in Paris.
After the match with Israel, the French national team will meet Belgium in Brussels on October 14th, Monday. The French team, which took the title in the Nations League in 2021, scored three points for the first two meetings in the third division of Group A2, where the Italians are now on six points.
This squad release comes after Griezmann who acted as the deputy captain of the French national football team announced his international retirement this week. The 33-year-old ended his international career with 137 appearances. Deschamps also agreed that Griezmann’s loss would be big for the team and could not operate in the same way without him again. I may not alter the system fundamentally but I do not go looking for a model like the existing one.
Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku who was last featured for the French senior team in June 2022 returns to the squad, while Midfielder N’Golo Kante has again been omitted.
