Manchester United are said to be making big moves to appoint Ruben Amorim as their new manager.
After the departure of Erik ten Hag, the club wants to secure the services of the talented Portuguese coach, who currently manages Sporting CP.
Amorim has a contract with Sporting that runs until June 2026, but the Red Devils could benefit from a special clause in his contract. The latest reports suggest that Sporting is considering offering Amorim a new contract that includes several release clauses, which would make it easier for United to sign him.
The initial clause could cost a Portuguese club 30 million euros. However, if a foreign team expresses an interest, that amount drops to €20m (£16m). Even better for United, if one of Europe's top clubs comes calling, the fee could drop to just €10 million.
Manchester United follow Ruben Amorim
The 39-year-old coach enjoyed an impressive spell with Sporting, winning two Primeira Liga titles and three domestic trophies.
United is said to be in advanced talks with Amorim and is optimistic he will be called up in time for the crucial Premier League game against Chelsea this weekend.
Although Amorim was interested in the job, he showed little reluctance to leave Sporting mid-season. United are pressing for an immediate appointment in a bid to stabilize the club's leadership after a difficult start to the season.
Discussions are ongoing about their technical staff and the amount of the final release, but both sides are motivated to make this transfer a reality.
As Amorim prepares for what could be his last match for Sporting against Nacional, the spotlight is on Old Trafford.
