Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has returned to training after a long absence.
Shaw last played for United on 18 February when he picked up a hamstring injury against Luton Town but has been included in England's squad for this summer's European Championship.
After being unavailable for the opening group matches of Euro 2024, Shaw played for England in the round of 16 and made his first start of the tournament in the final against Spain.
Shaw reported for United in pre-season at the end of the summer, but the club confirmed in August that he would miss the opening Premier League games with a calf injury sustained in training and has not been seen since, leaving fans in no doubt about his injury record.
However, Shaw took part in training at Carrington on Friday. This represents an important step in his recovery and is expected to be available after the November international break.
Shaw trained alongside the players who did not start against PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday and took part in the tournament warm-up. He has not played a competitive game for United in 264 days but should be available for selection for new signing Ruben Amorim.
Leny Yoro was also in training on Friday as he continues his rehabilitation program and the French defender could make his United debut against Ipswich Town this month.
Tyrell Malacia was also present and could make an appearance for the U-21s as he continues to get closer to playing for the first time since his knee injury. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take questions from reporters at Carrington on Friday afternoon and give a full squad update ahead of facing Leicester City this weekend.
Shaw released a statement addressing his fitness issues after the FA Cup final and wrote: “I'm delighted the lads are lifting the trophy this weekend and ending the season on a high note.
"As much as it was the result I wanted, it was difficult to watch from the stands. It was the most disappointing season for me, I had meeting after meeting and I worked hard to get back on track. , but things did not go my way as I wanted.
"I tried very hard to come back before the end of the season and the final, but some things are not supposed to happen. I want nothing more than to play and win with Manchester United.
"I usually don't react to things I see on social media, but a lot of people question my loyalty to this club and ask me how I can play for England and not for United. The reality is that I don't I'm not 100% capable of either right now, but I'm doing my best and constantly working to be.
"I have been at this club for 10 years, with ups and downs, and it is disappointing that someone questions my loyalty. I am aware that I have not reported all my injuries and the state of my recovery, but most important for me is to support the team that plays.
“My main goal now is to be in shape and whatever happens this summer, I will be ready. Thank you for your patience.”
