Despite failing to make a move in previous transfer windows, Manchester United remain the main suitors for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong.
The 27-year-old has been craved by Erik Ten Hags since the Dutchman took over from Ralf Rangnick two-and-a-half years ago.
Still refusing to leave Barcelona, the Dutchman continued to play at Camp Nou.
However, according to recent reports, that could change at the end of the season, with the midfielder's contract expiring in 2026.
Manchester United are favored to sign Frenkie De Jong next summer
Going into the last year of his contract, Barcelona, although ready for decisive negotiations, may not be able to extend his contract and this could lead the club to get rid of him this summer to avoid losing him for free. According to Fichaje, if the Catalan giants fail to reach an agreement with their number 21 on a new contract, there is a good chance that Ten Hag will push again to bring him to Old Trafford.
Although De Jong's future is still far from being decided, Spanish media claim that "all indications are that he will leave Barcelona next summer".
During his five years with the club, De Jong directly contributed to 38 goals in 215 games in all competitions.
