Liverpool start their UEFA Champions League 2024-25 in the group stage on the 18th of September against the Italian powerhouse AC Milan in the San Siro Stadium.
Liverpool is also the best-performing Premier League team in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) having won the competition six times. Their last UCL title was conquered in the 2018/19 season.
Of all changes within the Liverpool camp this year the most significant will be the resignation of current manager Jurgen Klopp who ended his term at the beginning of this year, after a nine-year tenure. Arne Slot has been appointed as his successor.
For Liverpool on the playing side of things, Thiago Alcantara who retired from active football last season will not be available. One of the recent signings includes a deal that Juve signed Italian winger Federico Chiesa.
This is the first occasion when the new UEFA Champions League structure will be the focal point The leading European football leagues’ 36 clubs will compete in a league stage at this UCL 2024-25 season.
It will be eight matches to eight different clubs with four of the matches being played on their ground and four on that of the opponents.
The points accrued from all eight matches will define the stature of the club on the league table, as the top eight teams qualify for the next round of the UEFA Champions League.
Regarding the first bracket, the clubs placed from 9th to 24th will fill in a two legs knock-out phase play-off winners of which will make it to the round of 16. The other clubs will be knocked out for the rest of the round.
That means, Liverpool has been pitted against not only Real Madrid, AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Bologna, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Girona, and LOSC Lille but also the PSV Eindhoven clubs. Liverpool’s away matches will be against AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Girona and PSV Eindhoven.
The match between the club and seven-time UEFA champions Milan on 18th September will be among the decisive matches on match day one. Liverpool has faced Milan twice in the UCL finals with Liverpool winning the match in the season 2004/05 and Milan in season 2006/07.
The lifting of the ban saw the Reds being drawn into the most difficult group, grouped alongside defending champions Real Madrid, which they will be hosting on the 28th of November at Anfield Stadium. Los Blancos beat Liverpool in the 2017-2018 and 2021-2022 UCL finals.
The league phase for the upcoming season of the UCL 2024-25 will start on September 17 and end on January 30. They have placed the final for May 31st at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
Besides the UCL 2024-25, Liverpool will participate in the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup, Navigation.
