Liverpool Captain Virgil van Dijk Addresses Anfield Contract Talks

Virgil van Dijk admits he has no idea what the future holds as his contract negotiations with Liverpool continue.
The Liverpool captain's current contract - like those of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold - expires at the end of the season and he has discussed an extension with the club.
But Liverpool is missing out on a £75million move on a free transfer, with Van Dijk set to organize a summer move to foreign clubs from January and the center-back unsure whether to stay at Anfield.
He said: "I can say that the discussions are ongoing, but I don't know, we will see what happens in the future." "I am completely focused on Liverpool, I want to win the games that are in front of me. and nothing else. I have no idea what the future holds at the moment. I can only tell you that the discussions have started and we will see.
Van Dijk turns 34 in July but is in excellent form, suggesting he could play at a high level for many more years.
Speaking after Liverpool's 2-1 win over Chelsea, he added: "I feel good, physically, mentally and I'm having fun. I have no idea what the future holds at the moment, but discussions are happening with the right people and when it's time to make a decision or something, I think you know it too. But now Liverpool is fully focused on success this season. Let's see."

Liverpool have the best defensive record in the Premier League this season, conceding just three goals, and Van Dijk believes a key difference is the number of players who have looked behind the ball, with new manager Arne Slott changing his style of play. game after the departure of Jürgen Klopp.
Van Dijk explained: "I think at the beginning of the season we saw some numbers about what happens if your opponent is in the final third, how many players we have behind the ball and I would say there is an exchange.
"I wouldn't say it's [only] the bottom line and the goalkeepers that make the difference, mainly the guys in front of us, so it's a team effort. I know how it works, and Ibou [Ibrahima Konate] like center-back or the goalkeeper will get credit for the clean sheet, but it all depends on everyone in the team and credit to everyone who does it. And I'm happy with these clean sheets, so I hope we can do more this season and be successful."
