Juventus are not planning to bring Paul Pogba back into their squad this season, despite their optimism for a return.
The former Manchester United star spoke about a wide range of topics in a recent interview with Sky Sports as he hopes to return to football following a reduction in his suspension for failing a drugs test in February.
After a long battle, the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted Pogba's explanation that his ingestion of a banned substance was "unintentional".
His four-year ban was reduced after 18 months, starting in September 2023, meaning he could be eligible to return to competition in March 2025.
The free upgrade had given the Frenchman another chance in Turin as he eyes a return to the club. "My mission is clear. I want to return to the field! In any terrain. First, with Juventus, I want to resume training with my teammates."
However, this plan could be blocked by the Serie A giants, who have upgraded the squad in his absence.
What did Juventus say about the return of Paul Pogba?
As the story continues to unfold, Pogba's chances of a return appear to have stalled, following comments from club director Cristiano Giuntoli. Asked about the latest news regarding the 31-year-old's place at the club, Giuntoli said during an interview with DAZN (via ESPN) that the door is closed for Pogba.
"Our position is clear. Pogba was a great player, he was out for a long time, and last year we had to invest in other players.
"So now the team is complete as it is."
Paul Pogba's contract with Juventus, transfer value
Giuntoli's remarks appeared to confirm that Juventus have no intention of bringing Pogba back into their squad in 2025, with the club having already signed players to cover the terms of his initial ban.
His current contract in Italy expires at the end of the 2025/26 season, with his transfer value unknown due to a lack of match action and he could be released as a free agent.
