Soccer star Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has denied the accusations of attempting to transport class B narcotics by being put to stand trial for £600,000 attempted dealing of cannabis through Stansted Airport.
The 33-year-old forward was sacked by the Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton after he was arrested in September. Livingstone, who has appeared for Aberdeen and has been with the Arsenal youth team, was produced at Chelmsford Crown Court using video link from HMP Durham on Friday.
Emmanuel-Thomas, along with co-defendants Rosie Rowland, 28, of Chelmsford, and Yasmin Piotrowska, 33, from northwest London, is accused of involvement in the offense between July 1 and September 2 this year. Both Rowland and Piotrowska also entered not-guilty pleas in court.
The French businessman was nabbed by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers in Gourock, Inverclyde last month. The arrest came after the NCA confiscated about 60kg of cannabis worth £600,000, concealed in two suitcases which arrived from Bangkok at Stansted on September 2.
The trial is expected to last between 5 and 7 days maximum depending on the defense the date of the trial remains unknown. Another case management hearing is now set for January the 6th. Justice Christopher Morgan has ordered Emmanuel-Thomas to be held in custody while releasing Rowland and Piotrowska on bond. The trial could begin as soon as May.
