Napoli is on top of Serie A after a big win against Cagliari 4-0 on! The match had to be stopped in the half because of some fan trouble, but that didn't stop Napoli. Inter Milan tied 1-1 with Monza, right before their Champions League match with Manchester. Goals from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Romelu Lukaku, and Alessandro Buongno helped Napoli get their third win in a row. Now they have a one-point lead over Inter, Torino, & Juventus. They will face Juventus next weekend in Turin.
This game showed progress for Antonio Conte, the new coach. Everyone is curious if his team can compete for the title. "Teams are still settling in since the transfer window closed late," Conte shared with DAZN. "We have worked hard for almost 3 months, and we must move forward without thinking about others."
However, there was a rough moment during the match. Some away fans showed a banner that made fun of Napoli fans, which started problems between both groups of supporters. This happened right after Napoli fans had their banner during their trip to Sardinia saying "sheep hunting." The game stopped for seven minutes because people were throwing things.
Before that chaos, Napoli was already ahead! Di Lorenzo scored in the 18th minute with a big deflection. Kvaratskhelia & Lukaku worked well together, assisting each other with goals that secured the win by the 70th minute. Buongiorno even added a fourth goal in stoppage time.
As for Inter? They lost their top spot when Denzel Dumfries saved them with a last-minute goal after Monza looked ready to win with Dany Mota's header earlier in the game. Coach Simone Inzaghi’s team needs to do better before facing City on Wednesday and the Milan derby next weekend.
"We created chances but didn't take advantage,” Inzaghi remarked to DAZN. “We were slower than usual."
Ademola Lookman made headlines too! He helped Atalanta secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fiorentina, scoring the winning goal right at the end of the first half! Before this match, Lookman didn’t play due to wanting to move to Paris Saint-Germain. But he sure made an impact by dribbling through defenders and scoring past David de Gea just after Charles De Ketelaere leveled things up.
Lookman also assisted Mateo Retegui's header earlier in the game! This is great news for coach Gian Piero Gasperini as they prepared to host Arsenal soon at their newly completed Gewiss Stadium.
"We're excited about playing in the Champions League this season," Lookman said happily. "We’ve proved we deserve it and must show that drive again on Thursday!"
Atalanta had played their first three matches away while finishing up their renovated stadium but now sit eighth with six points—three points above 14th-placed Fiorentina, who are still looking for their first win under new coach Raffaele Palladino.
Oh, and earlier on Sunday, Genoa managed to grab a last-second equalizer for a 1-1 draw with Roma! What an exciting start to the season!
