Two sides both still full of uncertainties as to whether they?ll crack the top four this term square off Sunday as Manchester United take on Tottenham at Old Trafford. Both teams are suffering with their early season form in the Premier League; before this match, each side had won only two of their first five fixtures and currently sit in mid-table positions with plenty to prove.
Noro’s return to Old Trafford was far from successful last week, United drew 1-1 with Twente in midweek and are under pressure to perform for Erik ten Hag to retain his job after the European match. Apart from that, Tottenham did very well in their first match of the Europa League by thrashing Qarabag 3-0.
Having both started their Old Firm stints brightly, with Ten Hag and Ange Postecoglou wanting to maintain the good form, the match on Sunday can define their seasons.

Man United vs Tottenham lineups, team news
Manchester United Team News: Ten Hag justified his decision to leave out Rashford in United’s last top-flight fixture but the forward was back in the team to feature in the Europa League tie against Twente and should start this fixture.
United will be missing the services of some of their main defenders such as Shaw, Lindelof, Malacia, and Lenny Yoro who joined from Lille this week. That means Shaw and Lindelof should be back in October, while Yoro and Malacia’s absences will be more prolonged. Mason Mount was back in action against Twente and should start again although it will most probably be from the substitutes bench.
Man United Predicted XI (4-2-3-1):
Mazraoui, Martinez, Dalot—Mainoo, De Ligt, Fernandes, Eriksen Rashford, Garnacho, Hojlund — {Onana (GK)}
Injured: Shaw, Yoro, Malacia, Lindelof
Suspended: None
Tottenham Team News: The new formation has seen James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski shift to more central midfield roles with Ange Postecoglou, which was effective in the last game against Brentford in the Premier League. If Postecoglou does not go back to the 4-4-2 formation once again, the two of them should remain in these roles.
Tottenham is set to miss Richarlison again for a month with a muscle problem while promising youngster Wilson Odobert will miss out for a few days after suffering a hamstring injury in the EFL Cup against Coventry. Midfielder Radu Dragusin was sent off in midweek and will not be available to feature in the next European match but he is allowed to play in the Premier League.
Tottenham Predicted XI (4-3-3):
Vicario (GK) — Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Udogie — Kulusevski, Betancur, Maddison — B. Johnson, Solanke, Son
Injured: Richarlison, Odobert
Suspended: None
Man United vs Tottenham Prediction
The last time Man Utd played at home this season they were trashed 3-0 by Liverpool. Erik Ten Hag has had a terrible time against BIG SIX since the announcement. They failed to beat Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, and Tottenham in the last PL season and they only managed to get a victory and a stalemate against the Spurs. They were also knocked out of the Champions League group stage – they only won one match out of six possible.
This poor run against major opponents will again be a problem come Sunday. Not only does Ten Hag have no tools to produce proper game plans in such cases, but his team also does not have any confidence or psychological advantage. Moreover, a majority of their star players such as Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho Kobbie Mainoo, and Joshua Zirkzee are so young and have very little footballing experience.
While Casemiro appears to be worse for wear and visibly aging, Man Utd has lost elite talent; physicality, and defensive midfield quality. But there Tottenham will have a serious advantage after the return of Yves Bissouma.
Again, United has felt the pressure this season in the build-up area where it lost the ball and also surrendered chances. Tottenham’s pressing was very good in Week 5 against Brentford, as the attacks from Heung-Min Son, Brennan Johnson, and Solanke would affirm.
Tottenham will be tired because they have a Europa League match against Qarabag on Thursday while Manchester United plays on Wednesday. However, by their current iteration and from what was witnessed in the previous games, there is every likelihood that Tottenham holds the trump here. Okay, maybe the Spurs made a poor decision there, but let’s go with Spurs for this one, anyway.
