The Red Devils thus embark on a difficult assignment in Rome when they shall play against their Italian counterparts in the UEFA Nations League fixture. The Azzurri have moved on from their poor result in the European Championship with style, soundly thrashing France 3-1 in their opening game of their League A, Group 2 last month.

Italy in the form of Luciano Spalletti took that momentum to the next level by eliminating the group underdogs Israel while Belgium was bashed 2-0 by France. The Eagles labored to that defeat and with it came harsh criticism from captain Kevin De Bruyne who will be out of the next two rounds of international fixtures due to a groin injury.

Player Romelu Lukaku has also declared his unavailability for international duties until the end of the year, which means that the head coach Domenico Tedesco could only turn to the young talents in the cadre of the Belgian team in the presence of two key absentees.

Italy vs Belgium  lineups, team news

Head coach Luciano Spalletti remains loyal to youth by inviting AC Milan’s Daniel Maldini- the son of Italian hero Paolo Maldini into Roma’s Niccolò Pisilli who is approaching his first call-up and roasting the prospect during the matches.

His selection boosts a forward line which has been thinned by injuries to Federico Chiesa, Moise Kean, and Gianluca Scamacca. Thus, it cannot go as 4-4-2 at the beginning of the match and most probably Italy will take Mateo Retegui and Giacomo Raspadori as a front two players.

Italy predicted XI (3-5-2, right to left):
Donnarumma (GK) — Di Lorenzo, Bastoni Calciori Bellanova, Barella, Richi, Tonali, Dimarco Raspadori Retegui

Full squad:
Goalkeepers:Gianluigi Donnarumma, Guglielmo Vicario, Michele Di G.
Defenders: Federico Dimarco, Alessandro Buongiorno, Riccardo Calafiori, Caleb Okoli, Matteo Gabbia, Raoul Bellanova, Andrea Cambiaso, Destiny Udogie, Alessandro Bastoni, Giovanni Di Lorenzo
Midfielders: Tutti i giocatori si sono distinti: Samuele Ricci, Sandro Tonali, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Davide Frattesi, Nicolo Fagioli, Niccolo Pisilli
Forwards: Mateo Retegui, Moise Kean, Giacomo Raspadori, Daniel Maldini

Belgium on the other hand will be without Romelu Lukaku and in as much as there are other players who could do the central striker job, Lois Openda is arguably the best bet. Supervise head coach Domenico Tedesco now must decide who will wear the number 10 shirt. The next in line to take over from De Bruyne is Atalanta’s Charles De Ketelaere but Arsenal's recently impressive forward Leandro Trossard could get the nod.

Belgium predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left):
Goalkeepers: Castagne, Faes, Debast, Theate — Onana, Tielemans — Lukebakio, Trossard, Doku — Openda

Full squad:
Goalkeepers: Koen Casteels, Thomas Kaminski Maz Sels
Defenders:these are Zeno Debast, Arthur Theate, Wout Faes, Thomas Meunier, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Timothy Castagne
Midfielders: Amadou Onana, Youri Tielemans, Julien Duranville Orel Mangala, Alexis Saelemaekers, Arthur Vermeeren
Forwards: African players in this club are;  Lois Openda, Jeremy Doku, Dodi Lukebakio, Charles De Ketelaere, Johan Bakayoko
