Real Madrid's absence from the prestigious Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris has caused a storm, with fans and football icons voicing their thoughts on the club's decision.
However, a surprising rumor has surfaced today in the Spanish newspaper El País: a letter believed to be from Hollywood star and long-time Real Madrid fan Viggo Mortensen.
The actor expressed his disappointment with his club's decision to boycott the ceremony after Vinícius Jr. lost the award to Manchester City Rodri.
Real Madrid's absence from the Ballon d'Or ceremony has sparked controversy
According to several sources, Real Madrid skipped the Ballon d'Or ceremony in protest, feeling "disrespected" because Vinícius, who had an outstanding season for the club, did not win.
In the alleged letter Mortensen - who is widely known for his role in The Lord of the Rings and his love for the club - criticized the reaction, calling it "unsportsmanlike" and "arrogant".
"Real Madrid, after finding out that their spoiled brat was not going to win the Ballon d'Or and that the boy was angry and sad, decided not to participate," the letter said. The open letter called the club's dignity a "bad thing to lose," adding: "I'm a Real Madrid fan, but this makes me ashamed."
His remarks resonated with many fans, who believe Real Madrid's reaction goes against the club's prestigious history. Mortensen also urged the club to prioritize sport and dignity over "the whims of children," saying: "Hala Madrid! Always, but what a shame you are doing me."
The letter has since sparked a debate among fans, with some supporting Mortensen's sentiments and others defending the club's position.
It remains to be seen whether the letter will affect Real Madrid's approach, but for now, the message has certainly caused a stir.
