Former Manchester United star Juan Mata has completed a high-profile free transfer to Australian club Western Sydney Wanderers. After parting ways with Japanese club Vissel Kobe at the beginning of 2024, the veteran midfielder continued his career in Australia.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, with official contract details set to be revealed shortly. At 36, Mata remains determined to play on, rejecting rumors of retirement, and aims to add another league title to his collection, having already won domestic honors in Turkey and Japan.

Mata brings immense experience to Alen Stajcic’s squad, with a distinguished career that includes 278 Premier League appearances for Manchester United and Chelsea. He also boasts two UEFA Europa League titles, a Champions League win, and international success with Spain, having won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 UEFA European Championship, scoring 10 goals in 41 appearances for his country.
