Manchester City star Ederson has revealed why he turned down a lucrative summer transfer to the Saudi Pro League. The Premier League champions faced strong interest in their No.1, reportedly from Al Nassr, but Pep Guardiola was instrumental in convincing the Brazilian goalkeeper to stay in Manchester.
At 31, Ederson considered the offer from the Middle East but has now opened up about the key factor in his decision. While on international duty with Brazil, Ederson discussed how a preseason conversation with Guardiola made him commit to the Etihad Stadium.
Ederson on Rejecting Al Nassr's Offer
"There was a proposal on the table, something unusual and significant," Ederson said, according to TNT Sports' Portuguese service. "I had numerous conversations with Guardiola, and one of them was essential. He talked about the guarantees, the process, and the evolution I've had with him. That was crucial for me to stay at City."
Guardiola had previously confirmed how close the club came to losing their starting goalkeeper, but Ederson's decision to remain will be a relief for City fans.
Ederson's Man City Contract, Transfer Value, and Stats
Ederson has been a mainstay at Manchester City since his 2017 move from Benfica, making 257 Premier League appearances. During that time, he has helped City win six league titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.
His current contract runs until the summer of 2026, and while the club is open to extending his stay, Ederson’s market value is estimated at around £30m ($38m).
