In a surprise twist, Kylian Mbappe will not be in the France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Italy and Israel.
It is the second time that the French captain has been left out, after his absence from the October games.
National team coach Didier Deschamps confirmed the decision, revealing that he had private conversations with Mbappe before making his final decision.
The news is even more unexpected since Mbappe himself has expressed his desire to join his teammates in these games.
Deschamps, however, clarified that the decision was not due to internal problems. "I spoke to Kylian and I made my decision. It's better this way.", he explained, adding that Mbappe was impatient to play.
Only one Real Madrid star in Deschamps' new team
If Real Madrid player Eduardo Camavinga is on the list, Mbappe's form has been scrutinized, which could influence Deschamps' decision.
Injury problems have also sidelined Aurélien Tchouameni and Ferland Mendy, contributing to the change in the French formation.
Fans and critics alike are eager to see how the Blues will fare without their star captain as UEFA Nations League action heats up. It remains to be seen whether this absence marks a turning point in Deschamps' approach to leadership or just a temporary setback for Mbappe.
