Cristiano Ronaldo has wished Ruben Amorim luck as Manchester United manager.
Amorim took over as United's new manager this week following the club's decision to sack Erik ten Hag earlier this month.
The 39-year-old will be looking to revive United's season after a slow start to the season and his side travel to Ipswich Town in the Premier League next Sunday.
Ronaldo's second spell at United ended after a series of rows with Ten Hag, but the 39-year-old wants to see Amorim succeed at Old Trafford.
Asked about Amorim's move to United after Portugal's 5-1 win over Poland on Friday night, Ronaldo said: “I wish him all the luck in the world. Manchester United needs him.
This week it was reported that Ronaldo had called Amorim a “poet” during talks with Portugal representatives.
Asked about the reference, Amorim said: “Yes. But it’s a bit funny because I like to talk, not a lot, but when I do, I think I speak from the heart. I think people listen. It was just for fun.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo revealed that he may only have two years before retirement. "I like this. I'm thinking of retiring from football... it will be in a year, two years, I don't know. I like the present moment. I like football," said the 39-year-old.
"He got up, went to training, and played motivated. When I don't feel like it anymore, I step forward and say it's not for me anymore. I haven't felt it yet.
"Do I want to reach 1000 goals? It's normal to love, but I don't think like that. I think game by-game. " In three months I will be 40 years old. I take things easy and that's what I do. What I like most is playing for the Portuguese national team. I like coming here. Scoring goals also helps me.
