Colombia Down Argentina, Brazil Stunned In World Cup Qualifiers

Colombia made amends for their loss in the Copa America final against Argentina, with a 2-1 win over them.

Brazil, on the other hand, was dealt a shocking defeat of 1-0 to Paraguay in a southern American Qualifier for the upcoming 2026 World Cup held on Tuesday. James Rodriguez, the captain of Colombia hurried in a penalty in the sixty minutes, and that completed the victory over the current world month champions, minus the injured Lionel Messi in their mid-locked goal-centered defense. It was even more pleasing to them since they had just lost 1-0 to Argentina two months prior over the same competition cup. ‘I don’t remember ever banging on that net against them – there’s the first time for everything, Nazi said about his vital spot-kick. It’s a final place that we want to become accustomed to.

This was just another day. But it’s always a great feeling to defeat the champion, which adds that symbolic value to the victory. Colombia’s victory on that day at Metropolitano stadium machined their path to second place in the South American World Cup qualifiers with 16 points out of 8 matches played, 2 points behind the table leaders Argentina.

The hosts took the initiative for the first time in this match as pencil and paper were taken for use in scoring. Yerson Mosquera jumped to head Rodriguez’s shot from a cross in the 25 places. However, their lead did not last long as Argentina MADE EQUALIZERS at the early stages of the second—half, when Rodriguez was caught off guard: and everything went wrong, her pass.

After a contentious episode, Colombia reclaimed the advantage 12 minutes later. Rather, Otamendi of Argentina was given a red card for his reckless tackle on Daniel Munoz, and Maza was convinced to go to the VAR and after that, awarded a penalty shot. There was no way Rodriguez could miss that one as he beat the head of Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez the wrong way to reclaim the lead for Colombia again.

Brazil stumble

Defender Jhon Duran should have put the game away for Colombia but his shot was too direct to be effective as it was aimed at Martinez. Argentina, however, continues to be well on course to successfully qualify to play in the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. With the expansion of the coup to 48 countries, the top six teams finishing in the South America qualifying will gain automatic places while the seventh team shall be given a chance to play in some other confederation’s qualification.

On the other hand, Brazil’s erratic run of the campaign in June saw a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in Asuncion. Jorge Morel has given in to the Atlanta United midfielder which is precisely why tamer United failed to reach Elite In step 20 Russian Premier. The result means Brazil stays in fifth position on the table with 10 points level on goal difference with Venezuela who got a 0-0 stalemate with Uruguay.

Paraguay earned its first win in the qualifying campaign, only its second in the process, and Border hopped into the seventh position having accrued nine points in total. That means they advanced one position higher than previously least as Chile was still licking its wounds over the 12 - - 1elting in Lipje at the hand of Bolivia. Santiago’s won two consecutive titles of Copa America in 2015 and 2016 common achievers of the World Cup.

Algaranaz and Terceros made sure their team did not lose their standing by winning Bolivia as they came in eighth whereas Chile was moved to the ninth position and had five points in five games. And Uruguay, seeking to advance from the semifinal stage. Clemens sealed the win for Ecuador with a one-goal victory of 1-0 against Peru that made Peru’s hope of qualification bleak. Eleven points were enough for Ecuador to rise to the 4th place while Peru still stays at the bottom of the standings with only 3 points from 10 matches played.
