Brazil defeats Chile 2-1 in World Cup qualifierclasico of South America Soccer: Brazil closing in on qualification to the World Cup in 2014
Brazil was winning 1-0 in the second half Thursday of a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chile before an 89th-minute goal by Luiz Henrique for the final 2-1 verdict. The victory keeps the Brazilian team in contention for a place in the World Cup at the South America qualifiers fourth position.
Chile began well when veteran player Eduardo Vargas scored by one of the respective finest of the match at the start of the match. Still, the Brazil team had many difficulties trying to orient themselves and find glory in today’s match. Finally in added time in the first half, Igor Jesus put the ball on the net by heading the ball.
Brazil had much of the ball for the last 45 minutes but again failed to create that many opportunities. Henrique made a terrific shot that hit the bar and finally went in from what seemed like thirty yards out in the added time which cast sorrow on the faces of the Chilean players.
The Brazilians are now fourth with 13 points while Chile who has not been very good in the qualifiers is still further down. The two teams’ next matches are Brazil against Peru in Brasilia and Chile against Colombia.
After the match, Luiz Henrique said, “This shirt means a lot. We are the world champions five times, and we will always give our best with vigor.
Argentina only managed a 1-1 draw against Venezuela in the forthcoming World Cup qualifier.
The match day saw Argentina, which tops the South American qualifiers, being held to a 1-1 draw by Venezuela in a game that was slowed down by a 30-minute rain-disrupted pitch at the Monumental Stadium in Maturin. Messi was back to the starting lineup after having been benched in previous rounds due to injuries.
Messi put through a cross in the 13th minute and Otamendi headed the ball into the goal past the wrong-footed Romo from Venezuela. But there was an equalizer in the 65th minute from Salomon Rondón’s header.
Messi blamed the poor pitch condition as a cause of the poor performance by Argentina. On the other hand, Venezuelan Jon Aramburu said he was proud of his team since the result proved that they can play with the top teams.
Argentina continues at the top of the table with 19 points while Venezuela which is yet to qualify for a FIFA World Cup will seek to carry this score against Paraguay.
Bolivia Stuns Colombia with victory 1-0 victory in the high altitude.
Colombia’s great run in the qualifiers was booted as they crashed 1-0 to Bolivia in a match played in the city of El Alto which is 4100 meters above sea level. Bolivia they were left to fight almost the entire match with ten men after Hector Cuellar was red-carded in the 21st minute and sealed the victory with a sweet strike by Miguel Terceros in the 58th minute.
The win sees Bolivia place fifth with 12 points and still retain their chance to qualify for the World Cup. Terceros was also hopeful for the future of the team: “We are a young team that wants to write a new history”.
Colombia was defeated but retained second place in the tournament and hopes to return strongly in the match against Chile.
