Barcelona fans are on alert as manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that young star Lamine Yamal is suffering from a serious injury.
A few days after a great Champions League victory over Red Star Belgrade, where Yamal played 90 minutes, the club announced that the 17-year-old suffered a serious concussion, preventing him from participating in the final match of the League against Real Società.
After Barca's 1-0 loss to Sociedad, Flick admitted the pressure the injury has put on the team - and is unsure about Yamal's return.
Yamal's injury puts Spain's call-up in doubt
The Spanish national team included Yamal in their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Switzerland.
However, Barcelona has officially requested that he be released from the team, prioritizing his recovery. Flick shared his hopes that Yamal will stay and recover, telling the press: "We asked that he not make the trip with the national team."
It's a tough decision for club and country as Yamal has been a vital part of Barcelona's squad this season, already contributing six goals and eight assists in just 16 games.
Yamal's absence was felt during Barcelona's match against Sociedade, where Fermin Lopez replaced Yamal, but could not replicate Yamal's impact on the right side.
As Barcelona head into a busy period of the season, they will need their young star to return to full fitness. However, with crucial games on the horizon, including Champions League games against Brest and Borussia Dortmund, the timing of Yamal's return remains uncertain.
Barcelona's injury list is growing
Barcelona's injury struggle extends beyond Yamal. Top goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and promising midfielder Marc Bernal are out for the season with knee injuries and key defender Andreas Christensen may not return until 2025 with an Achilles tendon injury in the long term
Additionally, Ronald Araujo, Ferran Torres, and Eric Garcia are also dealing with various injuries, testing the depth of FC Barcelona's squad as they look to maintain their lead over rivals Real Madrid in La Liga.
As the injuries pile up, Barcelona continues to fight for every point. Currently six points ahead of Real Madrid, the team is showing resilience, although it knows it will take more guts to maintain its momentum.
