There is further news that Barcelona may sign a new striker soon, who could be an ideal candidate for the team. It is emerging that the Blaugrana has emerged favorite in the race to sign Lille forward Jonathan David who cast a spell to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The powerful, Canadian international who has netted eight goals in this campaign, has performed well for Lille. Barcelona has been linked with interest to sign him and wants him to join the Catalan giants in the summer of 2025.
Hence, is David, Lewandowski’s Successor?
While Robert Lewandowski continues to be the club’s leading goal scorer scoring nine this season, the Pole will be 37 the following year. Barcelona is in search of a long-term player, and of all the strikers available, David looks like the perfect choice to fill that role. The 24-year-old striker has scored 92 League goals in his career and can be signed for free if Lille does not renew his contract by June 2025.
Taking into account the financial problems which are permanent Barcelona identifies David as a quality option for the same price range. It will only take him a pre-contract in January but several clubs from the English premiership including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
That’s why, while Lille is still working to make David sign a new contract, signs are already pointing towards a transfer in 2025.
David is also an accomplished goal scorer, an intelligent player who can fit into several positions and he has tasted top European football. The goal against Real Madrid was his fourth in just 10 Champions League games. He has also played at Ligue 1, where as a striker he scored 76 goals with 11 assists in 152 matches for the Lille.
