Barcelona could be on the verge of a shock move in the January transfer window.
Reports (via Football Insider) suggest the Catalan giants are preparing a move for Man United's Marcus Rashford, who appears to be looking for a fresh start away from Old Trafford.
Rashford, a United academy graduate and one of the club's longest-serving players, is on the wing under new manager Ruben Amorim.
The 27-year-old has not featured in the Red Devils' last three games, fuelling speculation over his future. The England striker has made over 420 appearances for Man United, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists.
However, this season has been difficult, with Rashford scoring just seven goals in 24 games. His desire for a new challenge, coupled with United's struggles, has opened the door to a potential exit.
One thing that could stop Barcelona from bringing Rashford in January
Barcelona's interest in Rashford is real, but it comes with complications. The club's financial difficulties and Rashford's high contract—believed to be worth more than £ 350,000 a week —make the deal difficult.
Sources suggest Barcelona could seek a loan deal, similar to how United sent Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund last season.
Although a permanent mid-season move is said to be "highly unlikely", United appears open to the idea of letting Rashford leave on loan to regain his fitness and market value.
Rashford's long-term contract, which runs until 2028, gives the club some leverage in negotiations.
The Saudi Pro League is also said to be an option for Rashford, but reports suggest the player is not keen on a move. For now, Barcelona remains his most likely destination, should a deal be completed.
