Paris St-Germain lost 2-0 to Arsenal in a Champions League big match on Tuesday followed by a massive 7-1 beating of Celtic by Borussia Dortmund in Germany. In what was largely an evening of comprehensive victories, Borussia Dortmund managed to secure the biggest away triumph of the night in the second round of the continent’s premier club competition.
Arsenal Triumph Over PSG
Notably, the game of the week was Arsenal against the French champions, PSG staged in London. The Gunners claimed a fully deserved 2-0 win through a stunning performance, with Havertz putting the ball in the net after a brilliant cross by Trossard in the twentieth minute. Just before half-time, Bukayo Saka scored another goal from a free-kick from the right half when the ball went in without touching anyone.
PSG had an early effort with Nuno Mendes hitting the bar in the first half and a late effort with Joao Neves hitting the bar after the restart but the team never found the equalizer. Arsenal secured their first win in this season’s Champions League group stage after a 0-0 game away at Atalanta last week.
‘Very pleased with the performance,’ Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta said to Amazon Prime. ‘The Champions League comes with other challenges but we managed them’.
Adeyemi Scores Treble To Fire Dortmund
The German side moved to the summit of a 36-team competition after they backed up their 3-0 defeat of Club Brugge with an incredible 7-1 of Celtic. It was a first half that was dominated by Germany and the outstanding Karim Adeyemi who scored three goals. Kann set Emre Can through for a penalty, Celtic replied through Daizen Maeda and subsequently were outplayed for the remainder of the match.
This was after Serhou Guirassy had hoped for a penalty before the break, making the score 5-1, and Felix Nmecha added the final score two minutes into time. This win was Dortmund’s third-largest win in the Champions League and only equal to the 6-0 thrashing of Legia Warsaw in 2016.
They spoke perfectly, very, very well; I Can say no game is perfect but this was very good. “I think this should be the case advised because this is the standard we should aim for.”
Barcelona and Man City Get Their Rebound
The Catalan side, which lost their last 32, first leg 2-1 at Monaco, replied in style by thrashing the Swiss champions Young Boys 5-0. Robert Lewandowski netted a brace, and Raphinha also got on the scoresheet before Inigo Martinez and an own goal in the last minute of stoppage time.
“We had to answer after the match against Monaco and we did it today,” said Raphinha in Movistar.
However, the new Champions League holders Manchester City registered a comfortable 4-0 victory over their Slovakian counterparts Slovan Bratislava. Dakota Oduro, Livia Giugliano, Ella R. Sober, and Imogen Barason scored for Pep Guardiola’s side.
2013 Champions League final participant Inter Milan, who lost heavily to City, emulated that score against the Belgrade outfit with a 4-0 thumping at home. Hakan Calhanoglu put Fenerbahce ahead with a free-kick before Marko Arnautovic equalized after coming on as a substitute, Lautaro Martinez then put Inter in front before Mehdi Taremi’s penalty clinched a victory for Porto.
Brest’s Stunning Upset
Newcomers Brest are also out of the blocks quickly in their first Champions League campaign thanks to a 4-0 defeat of Red Bull Salzburg. On loan forward from Brighton, Abdallah Sima had two goals, while Mahdi Camara, and Mathias Pereira Lage to make the final into the ten-minute rampage of the second half.
Other Results
The German defending champions Bayer Leverkusen recorded their second successive victory on Wednesday to edge past AC Milan 1-0 through Victor Boniface’s second-half effort at the BayArena.
In other games, VfB Stuttgart and Sparta Prague produced a 1-1 stalemate, after Enzo Millot opened the scoring for the home team with Kaan Kairinen leveling for the visitor team. PSV Eindhoven was held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Lisbon; Jerdy Schouten was on target for PSV while Daniel Braganca scored that equalizer in the last ten minutes.
