The leader of a group of supporters of Rosario Central, known for its hooliganism, was shot dead near the stadium of his club in Rosario.
Andres Bracamonte, known as Pillín, had led the Rosario Central supporters gang for more than 20 years and had previously been involved in violent conflicts with rival hooligans.
He and his deputy, Daniel "Rana" Atardo, were only four blocks from the Gigante de Arroyito stadium when they were shot by a motorcyclist on Saturday.
Rosario Central had just played a championship game, but Bracamonte did not participate. He had been banned from matches due to previous incidents and had been accused of money laundering and extortion by the Argentine authorities. Both men were taken to the local Centenario Hospital, but doctors were unable to save their lives.
The assassination of Bracamonte was widely reported by the Argentine media, which described it as a wash-up.
Newspapers reported that Bracamonte had a long criminal history and had been the victim of frequent assaults.
The last date of August, when a bullet grazed his back while he was with his partner, who was also wounded.
Bracamonte, 52, was also accused of ties to a drug cartel known as Los Monos and was being investigated for money laundering.
